- “The Highest Film Festival in the World” will salute Elvis’ body of work as a motion picture icon with screenings, surprise guests and a posthumous award. With an acting career spanning 13 years and 31 films, the IFFC is proud to pay special tribute to Elvis for the impact he had on the motion picture industry and movie audiences worldwide.

Viva La Diva - Noted Buena Vista soprano, Tina Lovejoy, joins the Alpine Orchestra for the summer concert series the weekend after Labor Day. Tina will perform familiar arias from operas by Bizet, Bellini and Puccini. The 35 piece symphony, conducted by Dr. Farrell Coy, now in its 18th season, will also feature George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” as well as works by Verdi, Leroy Anderson and Aaron Copland. 7:30 p m at the Mountain Heights Baptist Church, Buena Vista.

Susan’s from New Orleans, but she’s spent a lot of time photographing wildflowers and hiking most of the trails in the beautiful areas of Colorado, frequently accompanied by our own Roman Borgerding. Come meet The Madams of Central Colorado! They will tell all in a humorous and educational manner. Meet Buena Vista’s madam Cockeyed Liz, Salida’s own Laura Evens, crib girl Lillian Powers and three others. They will tell you how they prevented pregnancy, what they charged, how they got into the business and other true tales based on historical facts and interviews. This show was acclaimed by the Denver Post when it premiered last summer. The doors open at 6:30 and you can hear ragtime music until the “soiled doves” arrive at 7pm. The show lasts an hour and a half. Tokens cost $15 and are “Good for One”. They are on sale at the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce and BV Heritage Museum on East Main street in Buena Vista. Not recommended for children due to the subject matter. Proceeds benefit the Buena Vista Heritage For more information call 719-395-8458 or 719-395-6612.
